Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

By our Fort Lauderdale Plastic Surgeon

Dr. Chance Kaplan in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is a skilled plastic surgeon with decades of experience. He has performed numerous arm lifts as well as other plastic and cosmetic surgical procedures, and his patients are thrilled with their results. In addition to his private practice in Fort Lauderdale, Dr. Kaplan is also generous with his time and performs life-saving procedures for such organizations as World Journey of Hope and Operation Smile.

Weight loss, aging and genetics all contribute to the problem of skin sagging on your underarms. Unfortunately, while exercise can help to tone the muscles underneath, no amount of bench presses will get rid of the loose skin. If you’ve resigned yourself to longer sleeves to hide your arms, an arm lift may be the answer for you.

Call our Fort Lauderdale clinic at 954-772-1069 today to schedule your arm lift consultation.

Your Arm Lift Surgery Consultation

When you are ready to have shapely, toned arms, call our Fort Lauderdale office to be scheduled for your initial arm lift consultation with Dr. Kaplan. You can expect to be asked about your health history including any prescription or over-the-counter medications you are currently taking.

Dr. Kaplan will also discuss your expectations for this surgery and what you are hoping to accomplish. He will go over the procedure with you and explain it in more detail. He may take some measurements or photographs for your medical record. If you decide that an arm lift is a good choice for you, your surgery will be scheduled to take place at either our Fort Lauderdale offices or at a nearby Fort Lauderdale hospital.

Prior to your surgery, make arrangements for someone to drive you to and from your surgery as you will be unable to drive yourself.

The Arm Lift Procedure

Once you are under sedation, Dr. Kaplan will begin your arm lift surgery by making an incision that runs along the underside of your arm. The length of your incision will depend on how much excess skin you have to remove. Dr. Kaplan will use the smallest incision possible and will place it carefully so that it is mostly hidden.

If needed, liposuction may be performed at this time to get rid of any excess fat deposits. Working through the incision, Dr. Kaplan will tighten the arm tissue beneath the skin and hold it in place with sutures if necessary. Once the tissue has been moved and repaired, your skin will be redraped you’re your new arm contours, and your incision will be closed with either absorbable or removable sutures.

Recovery from Arm Lift Surgery

Following your arm lift, you are likely to have swelling and bruising, and it may be difficult to get a good idea of your results. Once the swelling recedes and the bruising fades, which can take anywhere from several days to a week or more, you will be able to see and appreciate your new contours.

Dr. Kaplan will give you specific instructions for self-care in the days following your arm lift. These instructions will include medications to take that will reduce your swelling and discomfort as well as directions for caring for your incisions to prevent infection and promote healing.

You will also be advised on when you can return to regular activity. Don’t try to push yourself in this regard; if you return to normal activity too soon, you risk damaging the healing tissue in your arm, and you may require another surgery to repair the damage. Follow Dr. Kaplan’s advice and keep your follow-up appointments at our Fort Lauderdale office so that he can supervise your healing and check your progress.
